Lewis Wirth (1923-2010) was an incurable romantic and a poet of bucolic bliss.
He was a patient, studious artist whose work is the result of meditation. He was inspired by a sweet melancholy. His calm and contained nature sublimated his expressive vision, yet he was expressive, emotive and welling with feeling. (E.V. Borg)

Helen Cavarra (1926-1978) dedicated her career to painting and documenting in watercolour a scientific approach to the study of Maltese flora, which remains to date one of the most complete in existence.
This is indeed a unique contribution made by this female artist and the importance of this collection deserves to be recognised. (Joseph Paul Cassar)
